Payouts: General FAQs
In this case, the amount may get reversed to your payouts account within 24hrs from the transfer status has changed to successful, if the customer’s account details are incorrect or if the beneficiary bank has any technical issues.

Pending transfers can occur at the Partner Bank or the Beneficiary Bank (customer’s bank). In such cases, the transfer has been initiated but is awaiting a response from one of these banks. Please wait 72 hours from the transfer initiation time to view the final status of the transfer. Here’s the TAT based on the Payouts modes: UPI: 99% of transfers are processed within 15 minutes. IMPS: 99% of transfers are processed within 15 minutes. RTGS: 99% of transfers are processed within 1-2 hours. NEFT: 99% of transfers are processed within 6 hours.
You can add or delete API keys and IP addresses under the ‘Developers’ tab. Select API Keys or IP Whitelist as per your need. Steps: Go to Merchant Dashboard - Developers tab - API Keys - Generate API Keys
Note: You can generate and use up to 3 API Keys at any point in time.

Step 1: Link banks to Account Sign up on Cashfree Payments and initiate Payouts Account activation through the merchant dashboard. Once activated link your bank account(s) with your Payouts Account. Click here to know more about linking your bank account with Payouts.
Step 2: Add beneficiary Add beneficiary to your Payout account(s) using our Dashboard or APIs. Cashfree Payments allows you to instantly validate the account details. Know more about beneficiary addition here.
Step 3: Start paying out Start paying out to your beneficiaries. Cashfree Payments supports multiple payment modes - IMPS, NEFT, UPI VPA, and digital wallets(Amazon Pay & Paytm). Know more about making a payout to your beneficiaries here.
Step 4: Get notified and automate reconciliation Get event notifications on email or via web-hooks. You can also use your merchant dashboard to view detailed reports.
This document is for Cashfree Payouts and Cashgram merchants who use Paytm as a payment mode.
As per new policies adopted by Paytm, Payouts and Cashgram merchants will require to have a Paytm business account to do payments to Paytm wallets. Here is how you can set up your Paytm business account and continue doing payments to Paytm wallets via Cashfree.

Create a Paytm business account (if you already do not have one), enter your business details, and upload the scanned copies of documents based on your business type.

Once your Paytm account has been created, you will get User Acceptance Testing (UAT) credentials that can be used to do test transactions in a staging environment before going live.

You can share the UAT credentials with Cashfree at care@cashfree.com along with your merchant id. Cashfree will do test transactions on your behalf and reply to your email with the test transactions’ details.

Share the test transactions’ details with Paytm. Paytm will generate production credentials for your account.

Share the production credentials with Cashfree. On receiving the production credentials, Cashfree will enable Payouts/Cashgram payments to Paytm wallets for your account.
Maintaining funds in your Paytm wallet
Your Cashfree Dashboard will show the available Paytm wallet balance separately. In order to add funds to your Paytm wallet, you will have to log in to your Paytm business account and recharge your wallet. Once recharged, you can come back to your Cashfree dashboard and carry out transactions.

Use alternative payment modes such as bank transfer, card, UPI or AmazonPay

If you are a Payouts user and do not have recipients’ payment details, you can use - - Cashgram payout links to transfer money to your users without having to collect their payment details. Know more about Cashgram here. Cashgram is activated by default for Payout users.

The primary difference between a Payouts recharge account and Payouts Direct is that a Payouts recharge account gives merchants the flexibility to make payments to their customers using any method that they are comfortable with namely bank, card, UPI, and wallet payments.
Payouts Direct allows you to make instant and automated payments directly from your bank account. Cashfree’s Payouts Direct integrates directly with your bank account, eliminating the need to maintain funds in the Recharge account. The balance in your account is available to make the payments. However, payout methods such as cards, UPI, and wallets payments will not be available for disbursals.
Steps to activate your Payouts account and start using Payouts to do single or bulk transfers:
Step 1: Sign-up on Cashfree Payments and complete your KYC Step 2: Once your account is activated, you will get an account activation successful email. Step 3: Log in to the merchant dashboard and start transferring money using the merchant dashboard. You can use a sample excel file to do bulk transfers or use API.

Step 1: Log in to your Payouts Dashboard
Step 2: On your Payouts dashboard, click on the ‘Accounts’ section.
Step 3: Scroll down to the bottom & copy the Bank details to recharge your Cashfree Payments wallet (Refer to the screenshot below).
Note: The bank account details are unique to every Payouts account therefore verify the account details before initiating the transfer.
The recharge should be initiated from the account whitelisted with Cashfree Payments. If your account is not whitelisted, please connect with our team before initiating the transfer. Transfers can be made via NEFT, IMPS, or RTGS.

Bank Transfer

If the beneficiary bank fails to send transfer acknowledgement in real-time we move such transfers to an intermediate Pending/Initiated state. Bank transfers can remain in the Pending state for up to 3 working days from the date of the transaction. In such cases, the final status will get updated by the third day.

If you do not receive the final status confirmation (Success or Failure) even after 3 days, please reach out to the merchant.
Paytm Transfer
Paytm transfers can remain in the Pending state for up to 7 working days. These can happen because of two primary reasons:

Paytm wallet is created against the provided mobile number, but the customer has not done any KYC.

Paytm wallet has been created with minimal KYC, but the recipient has reached her monthly limit for minimal KYC.

In the above cases, the recipient can get the complete KYC done within 5 days and receive the funds. If the recipient fails to complete their KYC, the transfer request would be moved to a failed state after 7 working days.
For Payouts, we support transfers to 160+ banks in India.
Payouts can be processed 24*7 even on bank holidays with all leading banks. For the rest, the transfer will get settled on the next working day. Here’s a list of all payment modes that are supported by Payouts.
Payouts happen instantly for small amounts (up to a few lakhs) and can take 1-2 hours for higher amounts. Sometimes banks face downtime with their platforms. Payouts are queued and dispatched once it’s up and running again.

Cashfree Payments supports multiple Payouts accounts to support your business use cases. For example, If there are two distinct use cases for Payouts, such as in the case of Swiggy where they need to process payouts for both restaurants and delivery partners, they may require two separate accounts to manage these transactions efficiently then Cashfree Payments will create an additional Payout account. Write to Cashfree Payments to create additional accounts. You can manage the payouts from the required account and also make internal transfers from one Payout account to another. Internal transfers will work when there are sub Payout accounts enabled for a particular merchant account.

You can switch between the accounts by selecting ‘SWITCH ACCOUNTS’ in the Payouts Dashboard.

You can add your customers, vendors, or partners as beneficiaries using their bank account details or UPIs to make instant and automated payments.You can also add them using the wallet details or a beneficiary’s card details. You can also upload Beneficiary details in Bulk. Once beneficiary payment details are added, all future payouts can happen using the beneficiary ID without entering other details.
Steps: Go to Merchant Dashboard - Payouts - Beneficiaries - All/Batch - Add Beneficiary

Yes, Payouts can be used only by registered businesses.
If you are not yet registered as a business but plan to start soon, you can signup and explore the product in the test environment.
We can also set up an account with limits on payout volume after understanding your business and future needs.
Bank Transfer: Bank transfers can fail if the beneficiary bank is unable to process the transfer request in real-time. You can re-try the transfer attempts in such cases after a few minutes. If this issue persists, please reach out to us with the bank account number and IFSC code.
Paytm Transfer: Paytm transfers can fail if the phone number provided is incorrect or there is no Paytm wallet registered with this phone number. Paytm transfers can also fail if you have exceeded your monthly transaction limit for your Paytm wallet.
You can transfer funds from one Cashfree Payout account to another using the Internal Transfer option.
You will see the Internal Transfer option in the Payouts Dashboard once you have more than one Payouts account enabled.
Just click on ‘Transfer’ → Select the ’Account’ & Enter the ‘Amount’ → Click on ‘Transfer’ to transfer the amount.

If the status is ‘Failed’, kindly re-initiate the transfer.
In this case, ideally, the amount will not be debited from your payouts account. If debited, money will be reversed to you by the remitter bank within 24hrs.
You can use the ‘Batch Transfer’ feature to create and initiate a large number of transfers to the beneficiaries.

Click on ‘Download sample file’ to find out the details required to be filled in the batch file.

Add all the required details in the sample downloaded and Click on ‘Upload File’ to upload the Batch transfer file.

You can also use various filters like ‘Processing’, ‘Pending Approval’, ‘Rejected’ & ‘Cancelled’ etc. to search the transfers.

If you wish to download a ‘Transfer Report’ — Just click on the ‘Download’ button to do the same.

The transfer will be done instantly.
If the status is Queued, our partner bank wouldn’t have shared us a response regarding the status of the transfer.
If the status has not changed post 24hrs of the withdrawal initiation, please write to us at care@cashfree.com.
Funds ideally get credited immediately. If not, please wait for 24hrs as the amount would be with the beneficiary bank which is supposed to be reversed to your Payouts account.

Yes, it is possible to send bulk payouts to beneficiaries in India from another country using Global Payouts. The funds can be added by the businesses in USD, EUR and other freely convertible currencies. The purpose of the payment must be known while setting up the account.
An Indian business can also send a payout to other countries. However, there are restrictions around the volume of payments and the purpose of payments. Get in touch with us to learn more.

Note: Reversed is a final state and does not allow transitioning to any other state.
Here, Cashfree Payments credits the original amount to your Payouts account.
Select a transfer that has been reversed to view more details about the transaction.
After a successful transaction, a merchant stops tracking the status of a transfer made. In rare cases, transfers can be reversed by the bank a few days after a successful transaction.
In such cases, the transfers are ‘Reversed’. You can view all the transfers that have been reversed on a particular day/week by the bank under the ‘Reversed’ tab.
This helps the merchant ensure that the transfer reversal is not missed and appropriate next steps can be taken.
You can download all the transfers - just click on the ‘Export’ button.

You can make a ‘Quick transfer’ to your beneficiary using the Transfer feature. You can also check the status of recent payouts made to your beneficiaries.
To make a Transfer → Click on the ‘Quick Transfer’ button under the ‘Transfer’ tab → Enter the ‘Beneficiary ID’, ‘Transfer Method’ & ‘Amount’ → & Click on ‘Confirm’ to make the transfer.

Bulk payouts via bank accounts happen by manually adding every beneficiary before transferring or by uploading a spreadsheet on the banking portal. Cashfree Payments automates bulk payouts fully via APIs and offers a much simpler alternative.
Unlike banks, where a single error in a payout file can block all the bulk payouts, using Cashfree Payments, even if there are invalid records in a file, valid transfers go through. Reconciliation for failed and invalid transfers is automated so you always know which transfer failed out of hundreds of payouts, and why. At Cashfree Payments, new beneficiary addition and activation is instant.
Cashfree Payments also allows you to send money to any Paytm Wallet, Amazon Pay Wallet, UPI ID or native wallets in addition to bank accounts, even on holidays. Lastly, all of this can be automated and built into your product or internal systems using our powerful Payouts APIs
In this case, within 24hrs from the transfer status has changed to successful amount may either get credited to the customer (or) get reversed to your payouts account if the customer’s account details are incorrect or if the beneficiary bank has any technical issues.

Using bulk file uploads or manual transfers requires no technical expertise and is the quickest way to get started. However, if you want to automate the payouts from your product or ERP, APIs should be used.
Integrating the API can take a day or two depending on the complexity of integration.
Many businesses start by using the bulk file upload or manual transfer option, and gradually automate operations by integrating the API.

Transfers to incorrect account details fail instantly. For certain banks, it may take up to 24 hours to receive a confirmation of failure.
To ensure that account details are correct, you can activate Cashfree Bank Account Verification and verify the beneficiary account validity and beneficiary name at the bank.
Cashfree Payments offers a wide range of ‘Payouts Reports’ such as:

Transfer reports - Here you can view details of the Payouts made and Cashgrams that are redeemed for the date range selected.

Account Statement -In this report, you can view details of all the credits and debits in your Payouts account.

Reversed Transfers - Here you can view details like date, time, and reason of all transfers that are reversed.
Other reports like Cashgram, PAN Verification & Bank Validation are also available.
To download a report → Just select the ‘Report type’ → You can use various filters to generate your report as per your preference Now click on ‘Generate Report’ to generate the report → You can now download the generated report or also delete it. You can also search & filter the generated reports.

The feature to edit beneficiaries is not available on the dashboard.
The Batch Transfers need approval before the amount gets transferred to the respective beneficiaries.
Therefore, under the ‘Approve Batch’ tab, the same can be Accepted or Rejected.
It is an optional feature - which can be enabled upon request.
Go to the ‘Approve Batch’ tab → Select a file → And you can Approve or Reject the transfers.
Approvals can work at a ‘transfer level’ as well as ‘file level’ - where all or partial transfers can be approved at once.

To delete a beneficiary: Log in to Merchant Dashboard -> Select ‘Payouts’ -> Under ‘Beneficiaries’ -> Select the Beneficiary to be deleted -> Click on ‘Delete’ button

To set your preference, go to Payouts Dashboard > Preferences.
The transfer will be done instantly.
If the customer states that the money is not credited, please check for the status of the transfer as follows: Log in to Merchant Dashboard -> Under ‘Payouts’ ->Select ‘Transfers’ ->Check ‘Status’ of the respective transfer
Pending: The payout is in progress and awaiting confirmation from the bank. Sent to Beneficiary: Inform the customer to wait for 24hrs as the money is with the remitter bank. Success: When the remitter’s bank has completed the transfer, the payout is in the Success state. Kindly Share the UTR with the customer to check with their respective bank. Processing: The payout request has been received and is being processed. Failed: Transfers to incorrect account details fail instantly. For certain banks, it may take up to 24 hours to receive a confirmation of failure. Kindly re-initiate the transfer. Reversed: A payout can be in the Reversed state due to various reasons, such as:

You can add up to 5 IP addresses for whitelisting.
