Flash UPI is a mobile SDK built by Cashfree Payments. It is designed to help businesses operating mobile applications to enable ‘in-app’ UPI payments - in other words, to make UPI payments within the business application itself, without needing to interact with a third-party UPI application. It works in accordance with NPCI’s OC 154 Circular, and has been built in partnership with Axis Bank. Cashfree Payments is working directly with Axis to process UPI payments, and by installing the Flash UPI SDK on your mobile application, you will be able to offer your customers a truly in-app payments experience.

Currently, UPI payments can be collected in 3 distinct flows - Collect, Intent, and via QR code. In each of them, a UPI application is the environment in which the payment is validated and initiated. Flash UPI enables the payment to happen in the business application itself, cutting out multiple steps that make checkout slower and less convenient, which increases cart abandonment. Flash UPI is completely secure and is in accordance with NPCI’s OC 154 Circular. Essentially, Axis/ICICI Bank’s UPI processing capabilities are being brought directly to business mobile applications with Cashfree Payments’ expertise in building payments solutions. Mobile application customers will have to undergo a one-time registration process. Subsequent transactions will be enabled via the bank and Cashfree Payments only. At all points, end customer payment information will be stored securely and safely, consistent with the highest security standards and with the same security applicable to normal UPI transactions.
The absence of the redirection to a UPI app and the direct integration to Axis/ICICI bank means that one layer - and one potential source of failure - is removed. Additionally, a shorter and faster process reduces the probability of other failure reasons, including poor internet connectivity, server downtimes, and user cancellations.
